The Better Business Bureau Institute for Marketplace Trust (BBB) launched the Scam Survival Toolkit on the inaugural National Scam Survivor Day with support from Amazon and Capital One. The toolkit provides scam victims with immediate actions to take, next steps to fully recover, and relevant support resources. To celebrate the launch, Amazon hosted an event for industry leaders with BBB to spotlight the toolkit and its impact on scam victims and their recovery. Amazon has continued this work through participation in the BBB’s Corporate Trust Council alongside Capital One, Walmart, and Target.
As Melissa “Mel” Lanning, executive director of BBB Institute, explains: “Scams are one of the fastest-growing threats facing consumers today. Addressing them requires more than enforcement. It requires education. By helping consumers recognize common scam tactics and understand how to protect themselves, organizations across the marketplace can work together to reduce harm before it occurs. Partnerships like this are an important part of building a more informed and resilient marketplace.”
